A well-known journalist and broadcaster, Geoff’s work for the BBC included a long spell in Rwanda immediately after the genocide. He is presently the Age and Disability Correspondent for the BBC. His thalidomide damage is in the most severe category, but that does not get in the way of his professional work or his determination to enjoy life. Geoff chairs the Thalidomide Trust National Advisory Council, and has worked carefully for several years to improve the governance and operation of the UK Trust. For some reason, the artist has not included the glass of Margaux or Montrachet that his friends would expect to see in this pose…
Geoff’s passion for justice and fairness drives him in all areas of his life, and probably lies behind his outstanding work as a journalist and broadcaster. This side of his character is more obvious when you look at the expression on his face in the sketch portrait.
Geoff delights in Art, and an appreciation of things visual. His ability to spot a pretty girl at 50 paces is legendary – all the more unexpected in someone with the most limited vision in his only eye.
