Commission a Portrait

“The first meeting is to talk about ideas, location, size, medium, framing (optional) and to start sketches and or reference photographs.
Second meeting, the drawing composition and direction of the painting is discussed. Once agreed and all happy I can begin the painting which can take between 3 – 8 weeks depending on content and scale. I prefer the client to view the painting nearing completion to discuss finishing touches.
Paintings from life is a longer procedure; approximately ten 1-2 hr sittings. I will finish off the painting in my studio with reference material.”

THE PROCESS

Artist’s statement
“I have great admiration for the portraits of Velasquez, Rembrandt, Vermeer, Schiele, Klimt, Tiepolo, Bastien-Lepage, Adolphe-William Bouguereau, Picasso, Bacon and Lucien Freud. I gather my inspiration primarily from every day people, documenting reality. In addition, I endeavour to reveal something intimate, something deep within their soul. Not just a mere likeness.”
