About Kathryn

Painter & Sculptor

Art like any other form of creative expression is a reflection of ones inner realm, ones desires, emotions, conflicts, thoughts, influences, aspirations etc… Ones life, a process documented in some form.

I have worked for 18 years as a commissioned artist. Working in a variety of mediums and subject matter such as: Sculpted portraits in bronze, portraits, equestrian and abstract painting in Oils, pastels, watercolour, charcoal and chalks.

As a painter of realism in a modern classical style, the representations of lines and colours, focus on the specific identity of the subject’s probing personality and the environment in which the individual lives or works.
In my artistic representation I endeavour to interpret the external lines of the figure to reveal that which lies beneath. I set myself the task of representing the personality behind the image, to convey more than a mere likeness.

I endeavour to captivate the viewer of a portrait that the subject has been fully captured by emotion, by psychology, by inner life. This is what distinguishes great from serviceable portraiture.

Portraiture over time has been an exercise in sociology, reflecting integration of character with context, or simply representing social dignity.

The portrait functions to mediate experience of the world as seen by the artist and in a way that makes the subject a medium of representation and documentation.
